Janne Järvinen (PhD) will join VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, as head of the Data-driven Solutions research area, on 3 September 2018. He will join VTT after serving as Director, External R&D Collaboration at F-Secure.
In line with VTT's strategy, Järvinen will lead his research area in the implementation of advanced and value-added innovations and solutions developed for the benefit of customers and society, while serving in a proactive role at the forefront of the digital transformation and technology development.
"VTT's Data-driven Solutions Research Area plays a key role in enabling the ongoing large-scale transformation of the software-intensive industry. I am very excited about getting to work on some of the most fascinating challenges of our age in the company of very experienced and skilled colleagues," Järvinen says.
"He is a highly experienced shaper of innovation and network builder. I am delighted that we persuaded him to take charge of this research area, which is important to the whole of industry and society," says Executive Vice President Tua Huomo.
Järvinen has over 25 years of solid experience in various software-related tasks in small and large software companies. He has also worked in a number of national and international research programmes and networks, such as DIMECC and EIT Digital, in software intensive sectors. He defended his doctoral dissertation as a VTT employee in 2000, at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering of the University of Oulu, and is returning to VTT after years spent gaining experience in the business world.
