Invest in innovation

VTT is a powerhouse of technology development and scientific research. Many of the most significant Finnish technology start-ups were brought to life at VTT. Do you want to invest in ongoing ventures?

VTT LaunchPad

The deep tech incubator VTT LaunchPad delivers VTT’s strategy to renew industries and society by building spin-off companies from VTT’s science and technologies. In the incubator, we bring VTT researchers and IPR together with the best business minds and investors out there. VTT LaunchPad is committed to develop fundable spin-off ventures with great impact. Financial Times chose VTT LaunchPad to its list of leading startup hubs in Europe in 2024.

VTT's spin-off companies

VTT has a long history of supporting researchers in commercializing their deep-tech innovations. Since 2005, VTT has systematically developed its spin-off capability to contribute to realizing its strategy and to this date, more than 60 companies have been spun off. The definition of a VTT spin-off is a VTT-technology based growth company with a tech transfer agreement. The growth company is initially based on VTT’s technology or substantially complimented by it.

In 2019-2023, 28 VTT spin-offs raised 480 M€ in investments, amounting 8,5% of the equity capital funding raised by all Finnish startups.

Between 2009 and 2018, VTT Ventures Ltd supported the creation of VTT spin-offs and made both in-kind contribution of technology as well as financial investments in VTT spin-offs. Since then, this portfolio, now called Voima Fund 1, has been managed by Voima Ventures. From 2019 onwards VTT has made the technology investments and managed them through VTT Holding Ltd, and VTT LaunchPad has incubated the VTT spin-off projects.

We have several protected technologies available for licensing or for sale at market value. Our broad and diverse IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) portfolio lends a competitive advantage to our partners and fosters new business opportunities. Each year, our research scientists produce a great deal of new knowledge, technology and IPR.
