New solutions for nuclear decommissioning
Information models, robotics and Virtual and Augmented Reality (XR) are here to stay.
New digital solutions were created in a 4-year co-innovation project between VTT and Finnish companies experienced in nuclear decommissioning.
This book is a useful resource for anyone looking to learn how to increase human safety and save costs in a large scale critical project of shutting down a nuclear power plant.
In addition, this book presents experienced contractors and partners for various stages of an international decommissioning project.

VTT has owned and operated its own Triga research nuclear reactor, FiR 1, for more than 50 years. This means decades of experience in waste handling, characterisation, treatment, conditioning, packaging and transport through our reactor operations and decommissioning. The reactor was shut down in 2015, and a decommissioning physical dismantling has been ongoing throughout 2022-23 and is expected to be completed with the site returned to green field by 2024. Read the final report of the dECOmm project.
VTT can introduce ground-breaking expertise from various research fields, like robotics, spatial computing, and risk analysis coupled with radiation safety and reactor operational issues.
