VTT among the most reputable public sector organisations

News, Company news

VTT’s reputation has reached an all-time high among the general public. According to T-Media’s Reputation&Trust survey conducted in autumn 2024, VTT ranks 7th out of 82 public sector organisations.

VTT received an overall score of 3.74 on a scale of 1 to 5 in the latest Reputation&Trust public sector organisation study. Our reputation improved from last year's 3.71, and we are now at a record high level for the 10-year measurement period. The survey, conducted by T-Media in October-November 2024, collected responses from over 10,000 Finns across the country.

VTT is now the 7th most reputable public sector organisation in Finland. Sharing the same score as the Safety Investigation Authority (OTKES), VTT ranks just behind organisations like The Finnish Border Guard and The Emergency response centre agency. Compared to large companies, VTT would also rank seventh and our score would compare closely to Marimekko.

"We all shape VTT's reputation in every interaction. This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of our people, as well as the strong collaboration and dialogue with our partners. Thank you to everyone who consistently brings their work and skills to the forefront!" says VTT’s President & CEO Antti Vasara.

Eight dimensions of VTT's reputation score 2024
VTT’s Reputation Structure 2024, measured across eight areas.

VTT excels in responsibility and products & services

The survey evaluated the reputation of public sector organisations across eight dimensions: governance, financial performance, leadership, innovation, dialogue, products & services, workplace, and responsibility. VTT received good, above 3.5 scores in all areas.

VTT’s strengths lie in responsibility (3.91) and products & services (3.85), both of which showed a slight increase from last year. These are also areas where VTT stands out clearly compared to the public sector average. We are particularly proud of the 0.09-point improvement in dialogue, which brings all aspects of our reputation to a good level.

"We’ve worked hard to showcase VTT’s research and innovations with a human touch, while also strengthening our researchers’ communication skills. It’s great to see our collective efforts reflected in the positive reputation results among the wider public. Listening to our stakeholders and fostering continuous dialogue builds trust and helps us make an even greater impact," says Leena Rantasalo, Head of Communications at VTT.

VTT is seen as an important player in Finland's technological development and competitiveness

In the open responses to the survey, the general public associated VTT with high quality research, technology and innovation. VTT is seen as a reliable and impartial actor whose research results are fact-based and serve society’s needs. Respondents also highlighted VTT’s role in advancing Finland’s technological development, competitiveness and solutions for the future. Areas for improvement include simplifying communication for a wider audience, enhancing transparency regarding funding and further improving the commercialisation of research results.

“The work of building and maintaining a reputation never stops. While we celebrate great results, we also take the key areas for improvement from feedback and commit to driving them forward systematically in the years to come,” Leena summarises.

The data collection of the Reputation&Trust public sector organisation study was executed with an online questionnaire between 4.10.–6.11.2024.

A total of 10 561 Finns participated in the survey. The sample of the survey targeted Finns between 15 and 65 years of age, nationwide (excluding Åland). VTT's awareness was evaluated by 2155 respondents, of which 203 gave a valid organisation evaluation.
